About St. Simon’s  Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church, Edmonton

The St. Simon’s Syriac Orthodox Church in Edmonton, a Jacobite Church, mainly consists of the members from South India (Kerala) who speak the Malayalam language. Currently we are thriving under the guidance of our priest, Rev. Fr. Manu Mathew. We are a registered not for profit charitable organization established under the Societies act of Alberta, Canada. Primarily serving the people of Edmonton and Alberta, Canada.

Our archbishop, His Eminence Mor Titus Eldho, conducted the first prayer and Holy Qurbano on the 13th of February 2010. The families of Edmonton assembled together under the leadership of the Archbishop and decided to form a congregation in Edmonton. The St. Simon’s church was officially became a parish with regular service in July 2010. Through the grace of God our membership has grown over last 3 years. Please join us in fellowship on Saturdays and intercede with St. Mary, the mother of our Lord and St. Simon our patron saint.

We are a jacobite church that belongs to the very ancient church called “Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch (SOCA)”, one of the members of the Oriental Orthodox Church. The Syriac Orthodox Church is  the first church of Christianity established by the Apostle St. Peter.

Our Archdiocese, The Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America is a non-profit religious organization in the United States, incorporated in the State of New York. The Archdiocese is under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of His Holiness the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, the Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church. This Archdiocese comprises of the parishes all over the United States and Canada for the people predominantly from India who follow the Syriac tradition. The liturgy in our church is in the Malayalam language. Syriac and English languages are also used intermittently during the liturgy. Once a month we conduct the Holy Qurbana in English.

About Our Faith

The faith of the Syriac Orthodox Church is in accordance with the Nicene Creed. It believes in the Trinity, that is one God, subsisting in three separate persons called the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The three being of one Essence, of one Godhead, have one Will, one Work and one Lordship.
